When we buy, have an honest word with yourself, do you buy value, or do you buy cheap? There is a big difference. Do we try and drive down the prices of everything to get to a price that suits us and not supporting local business owners…?
It’s a fact that we are flippant with our money when we want something when we value it but when we see it as a compulsory purchase our emotions kick in and we tend to buy on price…
Today I saw an article in the newspaper reporting that Mothercare is closing more shops, 50 over the UK, this has a negative effect on society and it does eventually hit our own pockets creating a vicious cycle of financial imbalance. Those 50 stores will no doubt be closing because of online shopping, where they pay no business rates for the online business and reduce the cost of staff with a voice on a phone if you are lucky or a stroppy customer service email telling you that you are wrong on the other. I am guilty of buying online myself so I am a hypocrite even writing this I am drawn to online shopping as its easy and convenient.
Eventually, those 50 stores will be hundreds of job losses on income support, benefits whilst they look for more jobs if they are lucky to get another job which means we pay more taxes to support those who need it. So that 5% 10% saving you made online you pay back later in tax?
This is not a perfect and simple cycle and I am sure I have a few facts wrong, but it is how I am seeing it… Think of all the brands we have lost, how many more are going?
Do you support your local shops?
Whilst looking for an image to use on Google I saw so many I used a Goole search thumbnail (above)
What is the fix?
